Do be patient as the web can be slow at peak times. Some sites can have
occasional go-slows. But.. |
Don't be patient if nothing is happening. Check the bottom of your screen for
signs of life. If nothing is happening, move on. |
Don't let the machine log on whenever it wants to |
Do investigate the OPTIONS menu on your browser |
Do investigate the bottom line which tells you what is happening. |
Do use a good search engine. |
Don't use a search engine that sells links as it will select sites that pay
to be selected. |
Do use the HISTORY which lets you go back and look, and revisit, sites
previously visited. |
Don't always wait for a whole page to load if you see the link that you want to
follow. |
Do make sure that the
Done message is displayed at the bottom before leaving
a page if you want to read it offline. |
Don't wait too long for something to arrive. If nothing appears after 20
seconds, move on and try something else. |
Do check to see that something is downloading as things do get stuck. |
Don't print lots of pages. The shape of a screen does not match paper sizes.
You can highlight, copy and then paste the bits you want into another document.
But some nice page providers offer a page specially formatted for printing so download
that one. |
Do store pages you want to find
them again as bookmarks and favourites. |
Don't store pages ending in .asp or pages inside shopping sites as the
address will probably vanish when you leave it. Store home or main pages as
these shouldn't change. |
Don't worry if the
Back option does not work. Some web pages launch on top of
the previous page. Either close the new page down or minimise it. |
