Synopsis

Caedmon and his Clever Whistle

biography

The Children’s Laureate Kevin Crossley-Holland advised new writers at the Winchester Writers’ Conference to put themselves on a line. I have. I drew from my own experiences at a London suburban primary in the early fifties. It was deemed to be a good school. I did not share that view. I waited 54 years to show just how vicious it was.

I wanted to reproduce the sights, sounds, tastes and smells of an era that must be as strange to the modern reader as the Saxon world visited in the imagination of the novel’s hero Martin Martin.

I have had one venture in Internet publishing that I have withdrawn from Authors On Line for revision. It concerns the adventures of policemen in H Division from 1888 to the siege of Sydney Street. Amazon gave it five stars and the Metropolitan Police History Review called it a clever combination of fact and fiction that keeps the reader on tenterhooks until the final chapter.
